vw passat will not tick-over

Hi, can anybody help?

I have a Passat 1.8 SE 20v, model year 2000, it broke down recently and would not turn over, when i turned the key it would just start 2 relays under the dash chattering away so i thought one if not both possibly faulty, they were numbered 372 & 377, i got some info off this forum & replaced 372 which was the fuel pump relay but it still wouldn't start & relays still chattered.

I was able to get it started with a jump start so i removed the battery & charged it, when i put it back on still had same problem so fitted new battery, car now starts but will not tick-over, it just cuts out as soon as you take foot off throttle, i am totally stumped as it was fine before battery went flat.

Any ideas will be much appreciated.

I am almost certain you need to do a throttle body adaptation.Drivers door open,switch on ignition,leave for about a minute,turn off and then start the engine to check.Hope this helps
