    Hi

    One of the coils has failed on my 1.8T AUm (not bad going I believe after eight years although only 57k miles). I was relieved and surprised that the RAC chap who diagnosed the problem had a spare in his van. He did suggest I buy an additional one (from VW) as the others may now fail. Two questions though;

    1. Is the view that the others may well fail now the first one has, necessarily likley/probable - based on peoples experience?

    2. The repalcement part no I've been given (by VW which I'm keeping as a spare) is 06B 905 115R where as the original part is the same number but with the suffix 115G. Would anyone know if this is a modified/improved version which is less prone to failure - as I believe those fitted to original 20v engines were?

    Many thanks for any thoughts.

    Cheers

    Andy

    Alright,

    I had two go on my AUM engine at the same time before xmas as It felt like the engine was missing a beat during acceleration and diagnostics picked it up as;

    16684/P0300 - Random/Multiple Cylinder Misfire Detected
    16685/P0301 - Cylinder 1 Misfire Detected
    16686/P0302 - Cylinder 2 Misfire Detected

    So I bought a replacement set to be sure. But this was during a time of major engines, MAF's, split hoses, lambda sensors etc. Expensive month and I did all my own work!!

    The Ignition coil VW number was 06B905115R in case you were wondering.

    Regards

    Josh
