    So a BDE engine?

VW’s reasons are the fuel pressure regulator (unlikely), jammed open EVAP valve (possible) and leaking injectors, also unlikely. I have had this and it has been the Air Mass Meter, where did you buy your new one? It is also possible for the pre cat lambda sensors to cause this. The first thing I would do is an output test on the EVAP valve to see if it clicks.

    Check fuse 43.

Those particular AMM’s have been causing terrible problems, sending people round in circles because they think it can’t be the AMM as they have already done it. I only fit genuine VAG UK supplied exchange AMM’s, nothing else-I suggest you do the same, if I am wrong it is only about £70 wasted so not the end of the world.

The EVAP is the evaporative emissions canister behind the right hand headlight, your car does not have an Exhaust Gas Recirculation system, it has a Secondary Air Injection system but that is not responsible for this fault in my experience.

So even though its a genuine Bosch AMM you would still change it? ill return the new AMM to euro car parts as its only a few days old and get a new one from vw.
Ill book the car in to have the evap checked as i dont know how to test it. Have checked fuse and its ok
    Thanks
    Tony

I have to replace lots of non VAG AMM’s that are only a few days old, sometimes I get it wrong but labour wise it costs less for me to fit a genuine AMM than it does to sit and study the data blocks on the computer screen as properly checking an AMM can take about an hour and still they can lie to you.

The EVAP is checked in what is known as Output Tests or Final Control Diagnosis and the valve can be clearly heard tapping away although this can be deceptive and I also check the flow is interrupted and opened.

Have checked the evap and its fine found someone who works for VW who came out and ran loads of tests he said that he has only seen one or two of these cases and recommends the air mass meter again from VW. Phoned VW and they want £93 plus Vat on an exchange bloody scandelous but got to pay it i suppose after that its back to the drawing board i guess ill keep you updated

Why is that scandalous? If you had to pay the near £300 they cost for a new one you would be upset! Anyway, unless you have an R32, they have given you the wrong price, for a BDE engine it is part number 071 906 461 BX and they cost £68.38 plus VAT.
