AMI - Ipod or USB Disk

Hi all - I'm new to Audi and new to this forum.

I'm taking delivery of an A5 with AMI on Sunday and I'm undecided of what to do recording what I'll hook up to the AMI.

I don't own an iPod but do have a large digital music collection. I do own some self powered USB disks however.
What do I lose by choosing to hook up a USB disk with MP3 on it compared to an iPod? If there are significant benefits of iPod over a USB disk I will strongly consider getting one.

I'm actually not sure. If it helps it's the Sport level trim, 2.7 TDI from May 08. The ad that I've taken away just simply says AMI.

ipod all the way for my money,AMI is great and plays straight from the ipod showing id tags,playlist etc

So will I be able to browse tracks by artist or album from a USB drive based on the ID Tags?
