You will find the tyres do scrub on full lock, especially when the tyres are cold or getting a bit worn, there is not a problem with the car if this is what you are describing. Mine does this (2004 1.8T S-line Quattro 190), so does my mates 1.8T,

New tyres could stop it, but there is no point, i just take it really easy when on full lock as this helps!

Yes, I'm okay about the full lock scrubbing - it's no big deal. The 'knocking' when I pull off is more concerning but again not terrible - I would like to sort it if possible. CV seems most likely - maybe I will just buy the two driveshafts for £150 - it's a bit of a bargain really!

I've been doing a bit of experimenting and it only knocks when accelerating moderately in a straight line (from a traffic light for example). I'm 99% sure it relates to the revolution of the front wheels. What about the 4wd intermediate drive shaft??? I have bought to new front drive shafts with CV's....

Im pretty sure it's not the intermediate, the whole car would shake under full range of acceleration. I had the same issue with my 04 3.0 cab, the dealer replaced the snub mount (front engine mount), 2 trans mounts and all 4 upper control arms. That did resolve most of the issue. But I also had that "ruff" feeling driving over certain kinds of pavement I changed my strut mounts and struts and that fixed almost all of it...lol. Also make sure your caliper's are working right, might wanna see if the sliding pins and the bushing's on the caliper's are in good order and that your wheels are straight.

Thanks Android184. I'm pretty sure it's a front rotational problem - you can actually feel the can knock - exactly like driving over cats eyes or those painted lines to slow you down coming upto a roundabout... Only in a staright line and medium acceleration upto 10ish mph. First gear problem??? Too slow though???

lol...I forgot this is a uk forum and you guys got stick shift cabriolets, mine is a autotragic didn't have s4 money at the time . So after 10 mph its gone?.....strange. Did it always do this since when you bought the car or did it just start to happen? Have you hit any potholes? Sure you dont have a bent rim and that all your control arms are good? The other posters were right in telling you it could very well be a cv axle going bad. I would take it to a local repair shop and let them look at it. But they will prob start with the same stuff most on here have told you to check. I means sounds stupid, but mis-torqued wheels will also do that...dont ask how I know..lol. Do you feel the knock and that ruff sensation more in the pedals, or the steering wheel?

edit: also cars with abs which im pretty sure you have will make a slight knock sound after the car is first started and you take off. abs system is "energizing" or so I was told by the audi tech at the dealer when I inquired about that noise.

Yes I would like to know more about it - I'm inclined to think it's not true as I've had lots of other Audi's and VW's with ABS and none of them have ever done it.
