Sharan - air con fault

Site newbie here who owns a 53 plate Sharan 1.9tdi 115 bhp in need of some help and assistance from you all. My problem is this - non-working air con. Although our summers are hardly spectacular, with young children, this air con gadget is priceless - or it should be!! When I turn on my blower fan, it doesn't work on speeds 1 & 2, but does on 3 or 4. But air con doesn't work when dial turned to screen on any power level. When I turn the fan off, the heated screen switches on and the air con light lights up, but doesn't work! I've had it re-gassed a couple of times, no joy. Is there a simple, relatively cost free option to fix this thing? I've put up with this now for 3-years and the wife and children have had enough of it!! Any suggestions/solutions?

i have a similar problem on my golf at the moment

what you do is unscrew the glovebox and remove
get behind it and you see a green resistor, remove it, take that to VW and get a new one for £20, reinsert

job done.

also check you air filter coz apparently if that gets clogged it causes this green resistor to overheat and therefore causes the problem in the first place

I'm not sure how easy it is to remove the glovebox on Sharans, but in my golf its a nightmare.
