I'm a Newbie on here - hello all.

Recently purchased Treg passat estate seems to have developed a rattle when decelerating (may have been doing it before but only noticed it with windows open in warm weather!). As soon as foot touches throttle, the rattle disappears. Preliminary inspections suggests area around the turbo but I'm unfamiliar with these beasts.

Has anyone got any ideas what it may be, if I would be able to fix it myself (reasonably mechanically able) , and costs.

    Thanks.

Had the same a few years back.
Mine was a worn waste gate arm. Which meant a new turbo.
But the more common problem is a worn waste gate actuator. (Metal cylinder with a long rod comming out of the bottom.)
When the engine is cold feed your hand through to the actuator & pull up on the bar that is attached to the waste gate arm. There should be a bit of effort needed to operate it, if you can!. If it's easy, then this is probably your problem.
You can buy replacement actuators from: http://www.forgemotorsport.co.uk/con...2&catalog=1706, but it is a turbo out job!
