Flashing Glow Plug Warning Light.

I have an 1998 A6 1.9TDI and in the last two weeks the glow plug warning light has been flashing on and off. This has not been on a regular basis and only happens on longer journeys when I am doing more than 70 - 80 mph.

Can anyone advise the cause behind this and what the best solution is?

I've just had the same happen on mine last night - will check the brake lights later then .....

Had this happen to me this morning, read lots of horror stories on other forums/feeds

after reading the above comment about brake light switch, went out to car switched ignition on and 'ragged' the brake pedal a few times, glow plug light went off and stayed off

What is the connection?
I had my spark plug light go on so a French garage naively changed the plugs but the light stayed on. They ordered a brake switch but it arrived and was the wrong one. When I got to Italy they fitted a brake switch but the warning light stayed on. They said I really needed a clutch switch and ordered one but it is not yet fitted. Meanwhile, the gear box had started to spit out 6th gear, they said I needed a new gearbox. Then recently, I went out to the car and the spark plug light was no longer on, the brake lights were working and the gear box problem had disappeared!

Anyone got a clue what is going on?
