well my book states Any VW approved 505.01 oil.

but as Castrol Edge now meets VAG 507 standards it should be ok to put that in your golf.

check the side of the can before you buy it as castrol have alot of different oil on the market, vw spec 505.01 being the min it should meet

i would use comma PDdiesel I think it's 5w40. It meets all the vw standards. Comma is much better oil than most of the others on the market. I have used it for years in all my vw's and non vw's
