hello to everyone, this is my first post.i had my aircon regassed around sept last year.it worked fine until recently when the air now blows no colder than the ventilation system as previously.it does switch over to the aircon mode (you can hear the change).my independant specialist who regassed it last year has suggested a probable leak somewhere, but recommends another regas.would i be better to ask for a full air con service? with the coloured gas detection ? any likely pipes that are possible causes?
i also read somewhere that the oil level for the compressor must be checked also.
i must say ,after driving bmws for 20 odd years (3,5,7 series petrol cars) i can honestly say my 2002 a4 130 tdi sport is better in almost every respect.including mid range performance , build quality, road holding (especially in the wet ) and handling.
even my non driving wife commented she feels far more secure in the audi.excellent car.

There may be a few things causing the a/c not to be cold, but if there is no gas, then you need to start by just having a regas with dye so that the leak can be detected.

Any decent aircon place should check for leaks before regassing.

I have the same problem in my b6 1.8T a4. It's possible to turn the econ mode off, but no cool air. Have added a colored dye recharge kit and can't find any obvious leaks. Someone on another forum told me he too has the same problem and it's been diagnosed as a hairline crack in his compressor (not leaking dye or visible from the outside apparently). I'm thinking my next stop is a specialist - it seems there's not too much you can do within the charged system yourself?

The system needs to be vacumed out, dye added then regassed. The system then run up and the dye would be detected by using an ultraviolet lamp and the special glasses. The leaks can be very hard to detect sometimes depending on how fast it leaks and where it is leaking from. Some signs of leaks may be detected by checking for oil if no dye has been used in the past.
