Since February of this year when I returned from only 1 weeks holiday to my Passat (New Shape) 55 plate, only to find I should have booked a breakdown call as my battery was flat.

Got back to home and the next day my sons Mk 5 Golf 06 plate, failed to start after the holiday again due to flat battery.

My car was diagnosed as the ECU was spiking so draining the battery.

Last Friday car to garage new ECU fitted.

Tuesday of this week, hey presto, flat battery back to garage.

This time fault shows up as Radio / Sat Nav spiking and draining battery.

So new Sta Nav, but still no TMC.

Monday of this week my sons Golf into garage, and they told him guess, yep corect at first try, his Radio / Sat Nav was doing exactly the same, so yes sir a new Radio / Sat Nave fitted.

What the hell is goiung on here, do they really know what is happeing and expect us to mess around al week as if we dont have anything better to do.

Hope nothing happens next week as away on buisness all week in Passat.

Still if no TMc I may not get very far if there are any delays that it is supposed to tell me about, as the manual says, TMC is availabe here and so do ALL other manufactures and theirs also works.

Sounds like they coded the new unit incorrectly, or didn't bother.

    Hi,

Are you using a TMC enabled navigation disc? The original disc that came with my Sat Nav is not TMC enabled, so the function does not work.

I updated the disc to a TMC enabled item, and it works OK now.

My Sat Nav system is a DVD not CD and am led to believe that we are still waitng for Tele Atlas and VW to get one produced.

    Unless

You can tell us better news?

    I wait in anticipation.

Whilst on the mobile telephone yesterday which is connected via a factory fitted cradle system that mutes the radio, after about 2 minutes talking the radio and sat nav turned off completelty.

On it starting up again it just had a blank screen and showed AM. I had to manually reset evertything for it to work, so once again back to dealers, who are totaly in the dark.

Any one else having the same problems?

I'm intrigued as the Sat nav unit in my new Passat Sport estate has the TMC option, The unit has a second tuner which allows me to turn it on to TMC, but never seems to find any TMC stations. Does this mean it's not enabled? or just some other setting I need to use?

The TMC function would be kind of handy to have, and as the unit seems to have it on anyway it seems a pity to not use it !

There is no TMC for the VW DVD based system available for the UK at the moment.

Teleatlas have not produced such a beast and there is no time scale at the moment that I am aware of. Once the disc is available there is no reason it shouldn't work as all the DVD based systems have the appropriate hardware to use TMC (Which if your feeling like it you can go abroad and prove )

Thanks for the response Froggy, it seems daft that the unit comes with it , but the DVD seemingly doesn't have it enabled...

Oh well, I'll go back to turning the second tuner on to Music again

Just one thought, I don't suppose another manufacturer's disk would work, such as Ford, or BMW would it?

No Carl, unfortunately they won't. Ford Blaupunkt system is CD-Rom based, and the BMW is completely different, Alpine or Siemans VDO from memory.

ah well, can't complain seeing as I didn't know what TMC was before I bought the car anyway.
