Apologies if already a thread but had searched and found nothing.

The starter motor went on my 1.6 petrol golf, but we were able to get it running by bump starting until now.

We got a replacement part from the breakers which turned out to be the wrong one (thanks guys!), as we had removed the old one, we left the battery and old starter motor out overnight, hoping the breakers would be open today to change the part.

As they are not open we put the old one back on and tried to bump start the car. Now we can just about start the car but nothing happens when you put your foot down on the throttle, and then the engine cuts out. We are wondering if the fuel cut out swich has cut out?? And if so, where is it located to switch it back on??

Have searched the boot thoroughly.. can't find it.. Anyone know whats happening?

Hi Vehicles with an airbag are fitted with a crash fuel shut-off. It reduces the danger of a fire in a crash as the fuel pump is switched off via the fuel pump relay.SO check your battery

    Thanks Kenney,
it's a new battery.. we couldn't find the fuel pump relay.. does this automatically switch off if the battery has been disconnected for some time? We think it's under the steering wheel, just checking haines manual.... is it worth taking out all the trim and checking the fuel pump relay?

It is only the airbag control unit, when deployed, that activates the fuel cut supply. The fuel pump relay is in position 4 on the relay carrier marked 409.You can run a positive feed to fuse 28 and listen if the fuel pump runs

You may have forgotten to connect something when you replaced the starter and the battery, since it started before hand.If you can not see anything obvious, then you will need a fault code read, for which you do need special equipment, and you probably will have to adapt the throttle body
