passat tdi 130 low mpg

Im getting reduced mpg on my 130 tdi i used to get 52mpg apx but never under say 46 even if i was thrashing it. I even got 60 on a long run to leeds fom kent.

Now im only getting 36-41 tops. just had a service and aparently the filters were chockers full with dust, new filters seem to have made a small diference, but obviously not the main problem.

Im wonering about the MAF mass air flow meter but aparently its 70 quid to replace. Id like to be sure before changing it. anyone know how to tesst it?

If its not the MAF then what could it be and how to test it?

I dont seem to be getting a reduction in power just mpg.

If it was your MAF you would also get a loss in power.

I've just changed mine because the car was flat as a fart past 3000 revs but the fuel economy was Ok and still is after changing the MAF. Power's back though :-)

Clean ur injectors with a can of forte and use a decent diesel like shell v power for a week

Did they change or adjust the brakes? If you have binding brakes then consumption would go right down - had this before myself.

Safest way to check is to jack each corner up in turn and see if wheels are freely rotating.

might sound daft,have u tried your tyre pressures?got A8 alloys on mine mpg was down checked them only had 26psi looked ok ,blew them up and mpg was back
