    Hi all,
I have a '97 1.6 petrol passat - the first of the newer shapes. Anyway, recently it has started to idle very high (around 3400rpm) after a few minutes driving, before the engine gets up to operating temperature. I checked for any air leaks, but can fault none of the pipes.
I got the loan of a code reader today and it came up with
    "00515 Hall Sensor G40"
Looking around the internet, including this site, it seems to be the cam sensor - I didn't think a cam sensor would be able to throw the idle off as much as that though!
    Has anyone had similiar experience?!
    Thanks in advance.

The hall sensor tells the ecu about cam timing so the wrong signal could lead to poor running. A vag-com read will give you 00515 plus a better desription of the fault e.g. open circuit, wrong resistance etc. The test is to replace it with a known good one. Easy if you happen to have a mate with the same car. Guess you may have to buy one to find out.

I didn't think it would cause the engine to idle so high though! It takes a bit to start is, which is understandable.
