A4 Climate control/air conditioning prob

Hi there hope someone can help!

I have an 01 A4 V6 tdi quattro. For the last few months the climate control has been on the blink. I usually set it to about 18C but redardless of the outside temp - even if its -5 degrees outside - it doesnt kick in. I then have to manually turn it on to clear windows/heat the car. Again, regardless of the temp it is set, at within a few miles the heat in the car is unbearable. Driving me mental! Any help! Please!!

Does it go cold if you put it on "LO"

Sorry not sure what exactly the heat matrix is! Think the cold air is working but to tell the truth the last couple of months havent been the best time to judge - I'll try to check it out!

Just a thought, but I know air con systems need re-gassing after a certain period, maybe it needs servicing and re-gassing? I had a quote from an independant guy that could do it for around £50; garages charge around £100.
