Recirculation motor

I've just had the common recirculation motor problem. I've been quoted £470 by my local ******* to replace it (its the dash out one!). This is cheaper than I was expecting but has anyone else had this done and at what cost?

Thats cheap. Must be the credit drunch. They were quoting nearer £900 last year for the same job. Easier just to take out pollen filter, push the flap into the open position, replace filter, jobs a goodun..

I've tried that but every time I turn the engine on, it just goes through it's self check and the clicking comes back! Looks like I'm going to try to do it myself!

I swear there was a write-up on here by a man who found he could do it without taking the dash out.

EDIT maybe it was the blower motor, I have had a good search.

Oh go on - I live in the same County as you and I put up with the sewage smell on the A47 Whittlingham bridge

Now that is quite pleasant compared to some of the stuff they put on the fields near here!

Right I've bitten the bullet, got the Haynes manual out and a new motor. What Haynes DON'T tell you is........ you have to get the air con/ Climatronic drained as to get the heater assembly out, you have to disconnect the air con pipes in the plenum chamber. Anyway after much swearing and other stuff, I got the motor out only to find......... the new one is wrong and the part numbers don't match! After looking on Vagcat and putting in the right number do I find that there are several different ones! So I'm left with all of the dash out and no car for work Monday! I guess I'll have to get the cycle out which is good for me apparently and at least the weathers ok! I'll keep you posted!

Ok, its all sorted and back in! Its a pig of a job but at least I found that the fan was broken too so saved the cost of a genuine one had I got the dealer to do all this. New fan is £227 apparently. Ouch! Fan from GSF is £48.50 delivered, much better. All I need to do now is get the fault cleared from the Climatronic to stop the display flashing on start up unless theres a different way?
