Well I just got back from having my 1990 Golf Driver recovered as I was coming upto a roundabout and pressed the clutch to change down it gave way and dropped to the floor.

I managed to keep it going long enough to get me into a lay-by - could change up n down with force and it would drive ok so don't think its the clutch itself - but when I did stop it wont select any gear - it tries for reverse and starts bunny hoping backwards a little.

Having a look around from other forums - it sounds like either the pedal assembly or clutch cable.

Anyone had this problem or know how easy it is to fix???

    Cheers
    John

It should be the cable; they take about half an hour to do.

Yea nipped down there just the other day for a quote on a waterpump

Fancy having a go at the clutch cable myself - bit of a novice but I don't need the car in a rush so can take my time over it

Non power steering water pump is easy, half an hours work, PS makes it much more involved.

Just shout out if you need help, I am only just down the road.

All sorted now - your right it was as easy as pie!!

Literally did take me 30 mins - the hardest and longest bit of the job was getting the little bung to sit in the engine bay bodywork right lol.

One thing I did notice from the experience - the clutch cable is made by the french.....that speaks volumes :P

    Cheers for the help.

    Onwards to the water pump...........
