Hi my name is Peter and this is my first question to the forum and hoping that someone may be able to help.

I have currently a 1996 T4 2.5tdi (red i) with approx 180k on the clock it has been a great van but i would like to upgrade to a newer model. I cant afford the new T5 (unfortunately) and therfore am looking to upgrade to a 2000/2001 but the problem i am finding is that there are few 2.5 tdi's with 102bhp and I really would like to keep the extra horses. However there are more 2.5tdi's with 88 bhp and I normally disregard these, then I got to thinking surely it is only software in the management system that releases the extra horses? is it therefore possible to adapt the management system to increase the bhp to 102 can anybody shed any light.

Hi, Thanks for joining the site.

How about seeing if you can purchase a second hand ECU from a breakers for the higher powered van? would this work?

Not sure if the control unit/engine management unit is the only thing different.

Could also try some of the performance specialists who do remaps, such as Revo, AMD etc, they may be able to assist

Main difference between the 88 & 102 is that the 102 has an oil cooler.
You can buy a chip tuning boxing from ebay (being the cheapest) which ups bhp & torque by 25-30%. But don't know how successful they are!?

Intaplan hi................if you buy the newer 2.5tdi 88bhp or the 102hp models by using certain larger injectors plus a remap around the 170hp can be achieved...........there is a model which was never offered to us in Britain with a 150hp by using these injectors and the remap this sort of power can be gained.

I'm using these injection bodies with even larger nozzles which the vw motorsport mk3 golf used some time ago which flow more than 3x that of the 110hp units .

If its aright with Stuart which if a can be forward enough to say it will..........anyone wanting to upgrade there tdi's in power can import most larger injectors/nozzles for most of the vw tdi models plus pd nozzles are even been offered for the 100pd , 130pd , 150pd , but you really need someone who knows what they are doing with these units because of the way they operate with the cam/belt unlike the ve pump systems like my mk3 and 110hp mk4 golfs operates.

As long as you acquire a remap or live map the power and driveability will be maximized , the site for upgrade injectors/nozzles is www.kermatdi.com .

P.S.........do not buy any cheaper equivalent units offered because all nozzles are not created equal BOSIO nozzles are the best..........even more so than oem bosch units!!!.

Mojogoes, how does it effect the fuel economy. I am very interest in what you have done and would like to know more.

I have also just purchased an intercooler as the 88bhp doesn't have one. Would I be benefitting anything fitting one. It seems as simple as bolt on, plug in and off you go?????

    Let us know more mojogoes?
    thanks

Sorry i may have made a mistake does the 88hp or/and the 102hp 2.5L tdi's use mechanical pumps or electronic pumps , all you can do with these types of vehicle's ( mechanical pumps ) is do a pump mod or use a tuning box which then increases the amount of fuel thats being delivered...........you can add to this some form of boost valve to increase the boost pressure.

If on the other hand the 102hp is an actual tdi which means it has an electronic fuel pump this can be tuned in the way mentioned b4 , if you add a intercooler to the 88hp and fuel and boost mods i think you can achieve around 140/150hp or more but adding the intercooler is or can be some what involved and expensive if you have someone do it for you.........but if you know someone it can be made reasonably cheap.

Just an update having had a word with a friend as the van's ain't my strongest point's , the only difference between the 88hp and the 102hp is only the intercooler the injectors are the same in both applications and of course the mapping will be different also.

They both use the same kkk ko3/k3 turbo which is a wastegated unit , so as long as you had enough room under the hood you could use a T25 hybrid which i had on my setup b4 the T28bb...........and this setup bagged me around the 200hp mark.

And this was with the 1.9L motor so with the extra displacement the 2.5L motor has a guess it should be able to use higher boost pressure which means more fuel can be injected b4 the smoke limit is realised.............which is the governing thing that effects emissions and the amount of power and torque you can get out of the tdi or diesel.

Mojo, what is a T25 hybrid? I'm serious about getting more horses out of the van but I'm lost with the tech! Is it a big intercooler?

Hi Fly......a T25 hybrid is a turbo which has a 360 degree thrust bearing and may have what is none as a cut back on the turbine blades = ( exhaust side ) of the turbo..........so it will flow more air through it at higher rpm and loads , some times this can make the lag time increase depending on how much you cut off the turbine's wheel.

Hybrid can also mean the turbo has 2 different turbo's married together or special part and components have been used such as ceramic ball bearings or the housing may be made from titanium etc.

Turbo's have what is known as maps which determine where there going to perform at max rpm and load so hybridising a turbo may increase its band width over a wider rev range.....but doing so usually means that its more peeky over a shorter rev range..............but done well you can have the best of both worlds to some degree.

I have just started on this site and just reading through has anyone achieved this mod yet from 88 to 102 bhp as I am attempting the same thing and was just wondering how to go about it.
