the ribbed belt is the belt that runs off the cranshaft pulley and drives the alternator. the console bush is the bush that connects the lower arm to the subframe.this can be found behind the front wheel. at those prices, i would go to an independent and save a lot of money.

That’s very expensive; the bush is £8 (yes eight pounds) genuine for part number 6Q0 407 183 A and takes me an hour to fit at most using the special tool that they should have as well. They are quoting for a complete new consul at £77 and 160 time unit’s (just over an hour and a half) labour, well over the odds.

its because of the prices i wanted it the jobs to be done somewhere else, i mean iv had work done on the car at a vw and audi specialist (not the dealer), do you rekon i'm better off getting it done by them?

The belt for £50 is okay, thats nothing. Its the console bush thats too much so if i can get that done for cheaper elsewhere then i'm better off doing that.

The console bush? has that got anything do with the dashboard by any chance? by that mean aking creaking noises whilst driving?

It is the front suspension wishbone rear bush, nothing to do with the dash but they do make a nasty noise when they go and often the tyres wear very heavily on the inner edges.
