    Hi,

My wife has just picked up a 58 plate 2.0tdi S-line Avant. We bought the car remotely which has presented some challenges to say the least, but the dealer is slowly coming round to the right place!

I didn't get a chance to drive the car before and I've noticed that there's a lot more shake from the engine at idle than there was in our 06 A3 2.0tdi. Obviously it's a different car but can someone put me at ease if they all shake a little (it's under 9k miles). I also get a bit of body roll, almost like an old American muscle car, when I rev gently at idle.

Sure it's normal, but with no comparison I've started to wonder!

    Cheers.

The several 2.0 I tried and the 2.7 tdi I ended up buying were all silky smooth. Though acoustically damped very well you could tell they were diesels, but not by the fact that they were rattling the windows.

Consider, your old A3 weighs a lot less than a big old A6, so it stands to reason that the A6 shouldn't be getting moved around more than an A3 by torque or vibrations, especially on an S-Line suspension.

At least you got it from a dealer and are therefore covered under warranty, might be best to bring up your concerns with them first and give them a chance to sort it.

I have an 09 A3 2.0 TDI. It 'shakes' very slightly on idle, as you describe. I also get the very slight movement when the engine is revved a little. I'm guessing as yours is on a 58 plate it's the new CR engine? In which case, maybe these are 'features' of the common rail? who knows. I wouldn't worry.

My C5 A6 Avant 2.4 rolls slightly when revved at idle. I quite like the way it does that!

It's because the engine is mounted longitudinally so it rolls the car from side to side. A transverse engine tries to roll the car end to end, so it's not noticable.

My A6 is an 07 plate and I've also noticed this.....quite disconcerting at first although I haven't noticed any problems relating from this phenomenon
