    Hello,

I have recently purchased a '91 V8 quattro in very good condition but due to its age the owners manual has gone astray. Does anyone have one who could tell me what some specific dash icons mean on the LED display? I have an idea what they mean but I don't want to go randomly replacing parts I think that are the problem as parts aren't cheap for this model!

    Thanks

Give us a desctription of what is illuminated.

I would think the symbols will be pretty much the same accross the range. I could pdf the symbols from my 98 A6 manual if you like?

It is a circle with a two semi-circles of squares around the outside of it. I think its probably something to do with the brakes but not 100% sure.

    Thanks

Hi Matt, I'm on night shift tonight but I'll get it done this weekend. That is indeed the brake warning lamp. It's to tell you the pads need changing in the fronts.

It's simply a wire into the pad which, when they get worn down to a certain level, contact with the disc and complete the circuit. Thus, the warning light is displayed. You'll still have a few miles in them, it's just letting you know it's time to change them. I currently have a minor issue where damp sometimes gets into the rubber boot (reminds self to fix it) and shorts out, which in turn brings it up on the display. I know they're fine though as I changed them not long ago.

To change them is easy, couple of hours set aside for it. The pads are cheap too. About £25.

I'd stay away from the cheap pads, they will cover your wheels in dust every time you brake.......dig deep and spend some dough you..........
