    Hi..

My car was working fine until i switched off and turn on after 5 mins today and it started missfiring itself and engine vibrates whole car . I took streight to local garage.. they checked and told that three coils are passing current but one coil has no spark at all. they replased the faulty coil with working one..but still no joy..
now he realised that the wire attached to one coil does not carring the current properly as rest of wires have current and now seems that car is running on three cylenders.

the mechanice then checked the crankshaft senser also and he told me that crankshaft sensor is also fine..

the only problem is that he cannot get to know why one wire is not having current to pass coil as current is not reaching properly to coil to pass plugs.

he said maybe it is ECU ...

any advise.. or any garage in Reading, berkshire i can bring the car in as i cannot afford to go to Audi ..

    thanks

A garage that messes around for six hours replacing parts that are OK could cost you a lot more than one hour at Audi. What fault code are they getting?

They dignosing system does not show any problem at all. Also there are no warning lights in dashboard.. all seems working fine..but its not..

how much would audi charge me for 1 hour then?

If you continue to drive the car you may damage the Cat convertor with all the unburnt fuel. Did the garage check the ignition amplifier. Do you have a multi meter. Regards Peter

There is more to diagnostics than barking at fault codes, just because there are no stored codes doesn’t mean there is a problem and so the next step would be to go through the measuring blocks one at a time to look for any anomalies. Audi would charge you around £120 for an hour’s diagnostics but it depends on where you are.

Just been to Audi and they do not have time to check until next two weeks and I cannot wait that long. I been to another local garage , they dignosed with three indiciations

    1. Ignition distro,
    2. cranshaft senser (just checked yesterday maybe thats y)
    3. catlyst coverter (maybe coz of excessive fuel)..

I think that it is ignition distro or amp whatever its called as car was running properly, until yesterday when i started the car engine started misfire without any reason.. so maybe ignition distro or amp is gone???

if thats correct , how can we replace that? and where to buy

    many thanks

Locate N122 the ignition amplifier to the left of the heat shield and un plug the four pin connector and meassure the resistance between pins 1 and 2 and then 2 and 3, and then 3, and 4, then 1 and 4 All four reading should be the same. This checks the cabling and the primary of the ignition packs. Then remove the 5 pin connector of the amp and again measuring resistance and with the negative probe on an earth to pin 1, 2, 4, and 5. this is probing the amp not the free connector. Again they should look the same, repeat with the positive probe on the earth, again they should all look the same. Come back with the results and values. Reseat the Motronic ECU connector in the plenum chamber electonics box on the left ,reseat all the connector you took off and run the engine to see if you still have the problem. Regards Peter
