    18s oh dear

    have i missed something

and where has the clutch related fault come from.
as it says in my post this is not a mechanical fault
also the car has not been serviced for the last 2 years as my ex girlfriend had it and did not keep up the servicing.

    asking around £4200

ok, first of all, 18's on a golf.... lead to no end of trouble if not fitted correctly and with the right suspension upgrades.

in regards to the clutch related fault, let me quote from your post

    https://www.vwaudiforum.co.uk/forum/s...ead.php?t=6600

"now when i slow down with the clutch in there seems to be like a very little knocking noise (like a little hammer tap) some where near the gearbox and i cant understand what it is"

i cant describe it tehinically, but i know this is mechanical, when you dip the clutch and a noise is present, i think it could be the thrust bearing/clutch release

in regards to the servicing, grim, a golf which is missing 2 years worth of servicing is not worth a lot tbh, its missed 4 oil changes at least, god knows what else. its a tdi S/Se, with 80k on the clock and your asking 4200 for it...

i paid 5200 for mine, with 76k on the clock 115 gt tdi on a w plate with full service history.

your problem in selling it will be that lapse in servicing im afraid

Tell us how your car hunt goes...
i agree, its your decision at the end of the day and i understand how much you want a golf, but trust me, a 1.4 is not the way to go, if you can hold on in ther for 12/24 months, residual values will have taken another £1000 ish hit, youll probably pick up an early gt tdi for the same money your considering forking out now for that 1.4.... something to mull over me thinks

    as said on my post.
    there are 2 parts.
    https://www.vwaudiforum.co.uk/forum/s...ead.php?t=6600

    the bottom reads
please note this noise is nothing mechanical just incase i wrote the message wrong

do the anti roll bar bushes need greasing or tightening to a certain torque

not sure if the anti roll bar bushes have to bed in as the noise is getting less and less everyday

i doubt its the thrust bearing anyway as it would make the same noise if the car was stood still pressing the clutch in and out

well, best way to look at it....

do you want a 1.4 sluggish golf now, which will last you perhaps 2/3 years, more than likely with quite a few problems as it is 8 years old or do you want to wait 1/2 years and get a 'proper' golf, eg the 1.9 tdi. by the time that time comes around, you could pick up a fairly nice example, perhaps 2000/2002 model gt tdi 150 bhp for about 4/5k

i know which id go for....

not sure if the anti roll bar bushes have to bed in as the noise is getting less and less everyday ive had the anti roll bushes done on mine and no, they dont 'bed' in, they remove the noise completely so you have something unrelated to this

i doubt its the thrust bearing anyway as it would make the same noise if the car was stood still pressing the clutch in and out if the car is only making the noise whilst moving, it could well stil be clutch related, due to loads being placed etc
regardless ,we digress lets stick to topic please. unless you have something further to add in regards to the OP's question....

There are plenty of insurers that will let you transfer your no claims part way through the term, providing you havnt crashed' 90 bhp limit havnt heard that before.
sounds a bit pricey but without seing full spec its always hard to tell wouldn't worry about the water pump so much' but you would have to set aside a bit of cash for the old cam belt. was that vw service history up to 50k ? and has the last owner had it from 50k till now ?or a few owners? if so it might be a case of he/she has had the **** of it done no maintenace on it and wants rid before it turns the 100k corner. remeber this no one sells a bargain !

For a stop gap car then yeah i would aim a little lower unless your minted.
if your not minted spending vast sums on insurance young is a waste of money in my opinion. If you get the insurance sorted why not try a mrk3 golf gti pick one up with 80-90k for half the price or if not go with a similar age 1.4

save a packet, wait till your premium comes down get that A3 when you can afford it,

    but the choice is yours

When i started driving, i drove the oldest fiesta for a year and a half..it was really a tin can..it smelt..couldn't accelerate..and had the build quality of a peanut. However...it was very cheap to insure..probably about £700, and i made the best of it..had a good laugh with all my mates piled into it and i really learnt to drive in it

Couple of years later, i picked up a golf mk3 tdi which is now chipped and it was really worth the wait because besides enjoying a car that is alot more respectable (i keep my golf is perfect condition)... the extra power is just fantastic and was worth the wait

Stick it out another year..i know you want a golf..i know i wanted a golf too..and i know i couldn't wait to get rid of my fiesta! but i look back on it and think it was a great runabout, saved me a lot of money, and made me appreciate german engineering alot more!
