Sounds like the external temperature sensor is faulty. I believe this is located within the front bumper.

Now I know it's been chilly recently, but that's just a bit of exaggeration.

On my car, the temp sensor is located low down in the front bumper, on the nearside, beside one of the foglight panels. It looks kind of cylindrical with a pointy end.

Ive had this problem myself just a few weeks back. The fault cleared the following day and it hasnt come back as yet, i can only guess that it was because i had given the car a very good wash with loads of jet washing into the front area during that day.

Have you given your car a good blasting with water recently ?

    hi,
no. only thing is, wjhen i bought it it had been sorn for nearly a year and was kept in a barn. Its in immaculate condition apart from this one problem. And (in ref to pic above) i did try to locate the sensor but no idea! maybe a good jet wash might do the trick?

    Interesting.....

My outside temp sensor goes 'glong' and shows -20c when driving in heavy rain. Sure sign that the alarm will malfunction for the next 10 days until it all dries out. CCM & under ns front well bone dry though.

Part of the rich tapestry of Passat ownership.....

You've got water ingress via the pollen filter housing and it running down the wiring loom into grey connector behind the LHF corner kick panel in the LHF footwell. If the car is newish try your local VW dealer as maybe covered under GOOWILL guidelines from VW and mayb repaired F.O.C or VW may contribute some of the repair costs.Get it seen to or will just get worse and cost £££££££'s to fix.
