I want to convert my A6 2.5 TDI Quattro Avant (150bhp) to the new 2.0 TDI (170bhp) engine. Can anyone recommend anywhere that would do such a thing?

Given the complexity of the electronics on these cars (especially the new ones with the 2.0TDI) I would doubt that it is even possible.

Even if it was, it would take a substantial amount of effort, and therefore not be economically viable. It would be cheaper to just sell your car and buy one with the engine you want.

It would be possible to put the 1.9TDI from the late C5 cars in to yours, but that would still be a massive job, and you would need a complete donor car for it to work.

Either of these conversions are going to take hundreds of hours to complete. I'll do it for you if you have the cash to burn though

I'll second Mikkis comments - have seen plenty of engine conversions done over the years, but they're generally performance oriented, putting a totally different engine in the car (ie. V6 Polos, Turbo Corsas).

The cost and effort of putting the 2.0TD into the A6 would be prohibitive - anything you'd possibly gain would take years upon years to recoup.

Thank you for your comments. Bit of a bitch really! My car is ideal for what I need, but there are no more economical alternatives unless I fork out considerably more than I would want. Just not happy with average 30mpg. Was unaware that it would be such a difficult undertaking.

A 1.9 conversion would be more feasable but still expensive unless you could do most of the work yourself.

Do you do a lot of town driving and short journeys? I'm suprised how low that is, since I was getting 40mpg from mine when it was broken.

How about an A4 B5 1.9TDI Quattro? There are a few of those kicking about for reasonable money, although they are a bit smaller than the A6.

Or just sell the 2.5Q and buy a 1.9FWD? Do you really need Quattro?

Unfortunately A4 just too small really otherwise would've bought the 1.9 TDI. FWD not an option. Reckon I'll have to abandon the idea, live with the crap mpg and save for a newer model with the common rail engine. Thank you for your advice, I am as you can tell, pretty ignorant of the technical details of such an undertaking. Going to start a new thread though to ask if anyone has any experience of remapping/chipping the 150bhp TDI engine.
