I turn the key and the rev counter needle shoots up and then straight back down again and dies. It happens quite infrequently, but when it does is a nightmare and it won't start for half the day (like today). It seems to do it when there's a been a bit of sun, if that offers any clues.

Anyone experienced this or know a solution? Any suggestions appreciated.

    Many thanks in advance

I've just looked on about 10 sites at engine code lists, but none of them list GTi's for some bizarre reason.

    It's a MK3 Golf GTi 2.0, N 1995

    Thanks

I think that's an AGG. Have you got the handbook? Is there a sticker on the top of the cambelt cover (can't remember if Mk3 GTis have one there)

There are two numbers/codes on the cam belt cover:
    ABF 0044 400
    1825

    Hope this is one...?

    Thanks

Does posting this assist with matters in general? I was under the impression you may've been able to help...
