Please does anyone know what VW will charge for a replacement key blade? I dont want the fob, just a spare way of mechanically unlocking the doors. It's the usual problem of VW locks having a mind of their own. I do have the key numbers etc.

    Cheers

Cheaper to get a blank key blade from ebay and get your local locksmith to cut the profile.

    Thanks Batteryman, I agree.
Problem is I have tried that and after two returns to the key cutting place I can still only lock the car, it doesn' want to unlock it.

Thought I may try the genuine article if it wont break the bank!

You may find it will! I'd go back to the key cutter and get my money back then go to a good locksmith who does car keys. When I had one cut, places like Timpsons couldn't grip the key properly to cut it but my local locksmith managed no problem. That was for an 'S' reg '98 car with worn key. Sounds like your key cutter isn't up to much.

I don't know off the top of my head how much they charge at VW but its not as much as you might think... I would enquire first before going down the E-bay route
