I'm going through the new toy phase of keeping the car cleaned once a week - it's white - and I like ot listen to the radio whilst doing so. However, the radio, or any of the media inputs, appear to turn off after about 20 minutes. Makes no difference if the keys is inserted or not.

Is there a setting that enables the radio stay on for longer? May make the difference between me washing the car or the kids in future.

    Thanks

    MJ

It's the same with the interior lights. If you leave a door open they go out after 10 mins. If you leave the interior lights turned on by the switch they go out after an hours or so.

It's all to do with saving the battery.

I don't believe you can customise this. The only thing is turn the radio on again.

On my B6 S4 it would run for one hour but I reckon due to the screen in the B8, they've shortened the time.

you can extend the run on time (vag com)but why would you wish to as this would discharge the battery

I only found this out the other day whilst on the Eurotunnel. I dont buy they power drain problem, as my previous Volvo with intelligent key was quite happy, it powered down all non essential functiuons including the remote controls on the sterring wheel, so you had to reach over and adjust the volume etc using the knobs on the central console. I cant say the extra exercise was too exhausting. Electric windows would function as well.
So how much remains powered up on an Audi that is going to flatten the battery?

    its just a feature.
my boring old 54' golf with ZERO spec does this.
as does it turn the interior light off if its left on

TBH im happy for it to happen.
If you want it to last you need to have the car "on" not running, just on.

battery management looks after all the extra networks to maintain battery performance. Its not a volvo and again this is a pointless thread, when the vehicle is in the for any diagnostic work the battery must be connected to a charger.
Battery management has different stages and when those criterion are met consumers are switched off to reduce no load current on the battery.

A simple "no you can't" or "yes you can" would have sufficed - sorry for creating a pointless thread

Actually the pointless thread has set me thinking in another direction. The lack of the "Accessory" position that is available on other cars to allow power down of all the major functions and just leave minimum functions like radio made me think about the 12volt outlet in the load bay. I have used this in other cars often to power a cool box when the car is left over lunch etc when I am in France with no battery drain problems. Must check this out to see if Audi make this decision for me, and avoid finding a nasty mess!

Will also take the advice and run the engine next time I want to listen to the CD / iPOD in the Eurotunnel. The other cars will be able to appreciate the low emissions of the latest Audi.

In my Mini, the 12V socket in the boot is always live, even when the key is removed and the car locked - great for coolers but you have to be careful about the battery

The normal 12V socket between the front seats is only on if the key is in the "acc" position or more.

This was also the same in a friend's BMW we borrowed and I would assume it's the same in the Audi.

I've got the advanced key in the new car so I have no idea what is and isn't switch-on-able
