Hi, I'm new to this site and wonder if I can get some of your expert advice.

I recently picked up by Bora 1.6 from a Honda dealer (Y Reg). Obviously a trade in but was in great nick, with only 45K on the clock. Haggled a good price and was passed everything on.

Now realise that the remote central locking is not working with the key fob. Spoke to the sales guy who sent me new batteries - which were required. Put these in and follwed the instructions he gave me (same as in the manual) but it doesn't work. I'm not getting any joy out of the sales guy now and recently spoke to a VW dealer who told me it would cost £45 to re-sync which I would like to avoid.

I have two key fobs and a black plastic key which came with the two fobs. The cut of the plastic key is the same as the blade keys on the key fobs.

I can open the car manually and it start fine. My question is, can anyone give me an idiots guide as to how I can re-programme the key fobs to activate the remote central locking. I have read a lot of the threads here and the question has been asked before but I dont see any step by step instructions.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi, thanks for your suggestion, but yep I've checked and re-checked the battery and tried to go by the instructions in the handbook which were pretty simple anyway - judging by the many other suggestions I've read on the net, I thought it would be complicated....but even so, none of those, or even the one suggested in the handbook seem to work.

Can I ask, what exactly did you do in order to get your key sync'd up?

all i did was what it said in the manual "press the open button on the remote then unlock the car with the key youve just pressed" however ive just read that if its a new key or one that has been obtained from a dealer it will need to be syncronized at a main dealer, hope this helps.

If you're still struggling, try your local locksmiths - ring round until you find one who works with car locks and VW's in particular. If you're in the Greater Manchester area, this company sorted mine - Bolton Lock Company, 354-360 Manchester Road, Westhoughton, Bolton, Lancashire BL5 3JT, Tel: 01942 811186.

Here's what someone else said - not very clear but may work. He says you need the ignition on then follow the sequence in the manual.

"hi there, ive a mk4 1.9 gttdi and had a problem with my spare key, would not remote open and close doors etc and wouldnt de actinate the immobilizer, followed what it said in hand book but nothing, read in tune up manuel that ignition had to be on, so went to it and within a few mins my spare key was programmed to the car, cant see why they need the car for an afternoon????? says in hand book that you can program up to 4 or 5 keys to one car"
