Found the relay - it is not genuine VAG but some italian make, it was also hot to the touch.

When I went out to repair my leaking rear washer everything worked fine... switched off ignition to look at relay - when I re-inserted relay everyhting stopped working again.

However when you put the ignition key to positon 2 everything will come on and work but when you crank it over and start it you lose everyhting again...

Can somebody supply me with a VAG no: for the relay and I will try genuine 1st if not that then I think I will need to look at the switch ?

    Thanks Gary...

have ordered a new VAG relay and ignition switch - can anyone tell me if there are any procedures for getting to the igniton switch ? the 1 main piece of advice I have been given is to disconnect the battery for 20mins before removing airbag and also make sure it is not lying on its face...

    thanks in advance Gary........
