    Hi, back again!

Do I have to run my new A4 in? Its a brand new 09 plate. If so, what should I avoid? Keep it under 3000 rpm etc?

I would take it easy at first with not too much right foot when the boost comes in and dont hang in the low gears.Your hanbook will shed some light on it too i guess.

good thing about new cars is they are run in at the factory now. As the previous post says take it easy. Like not thrash it about. You can do 70 on a motor-way but gradually work your speed to it-avoid the 0-60 method. But with the gear changes take it easy, like not too high revs. Also, beware of the tyres too. These also need to be run in. Like not take a corner too fast. When you pull off, not to rev the engine, just gradually pull away. On a cold engine drive carefully, start by driving slow till the engine warms up.

Also remember to check the engine oil level regularly as this runs down quickly on a new engine. (then what your used to on a previous car)

Apart from that, just take it easy and not boy race around In other words just drive the way you would if you were a new driver -without the mistakes.
The book has detail and exact info you need to follow.

Thanks for that folks! I've really enjoyed driving her so far. Much nicer to drive then my previous BMW 3 series. I'll run her in nice and gentle like!

I have to point out that the Audi videos on youtube where they show the assembly lines and how the B8 is made includes a short clip where they dyno the car as soon as it comes of the assembly line.

So Basically whithin hours of the engine being mounted, it's strapped to a dyno machine and driven rather hard. as mentioned above, engines these days do not really require a running in period, it's basically due to the manufacturing process having improved over the years, the smaller tolerances and more precisely manufactured components fit correctly right from the start.

True the spin it up but it's quick and hence theirs no real heat soak. That's vastly different to buying a car and ragging it straight out of the box.
