Posted a while back regarding my tank cap not closing. Posters kindly pointed me in direction of solenoid etc.

I mistakenly said that the release button would no longer illuminate beside my hand brake - of course it did when I turned lights on - D'uh lol.

Anyway, I took it to garage who insisted on hooking it up for diagnosis - now in these credit crunch times I wasn't in a position to pay out for diagnostics, labour etc. so said "no ta"!

    Two questions:

    (1) Is there a fuse solely for the petrol cap , because all other electrics are fine?
    (2) I've removed trim at parcel shelf as instructed but can see neither a (green) manual cable release for the cap or see solenoid to oil and fiddle with!

Please help as I'm at my wit's end - keep waiting for some hooligan to rip my flap off!!

If the fuse had gone (it is number 38), the cap would not open and the Golf 4 filler cap is not linked to the central convenience for diagnostics so if it is jammed open I think you have a problem with the solenoid unit or release rod/guide sleeve so the system will need removing and stripping down. A new solenoid is 1K5 959 782 and costs £15.
