I've been round and round with this one, feed back would be appreciated. A4 1.9 TDI multitronic - got a short squeal, car bumped a couple of times as if crossing lumps in road surface, then car front wheel/wheels lock up doing 60ish on dual carriageway. Something 'gives' and car rolls free to side of the road. Dreaded gear selector flashing on dashboard. Had it stripped by Independent Transmission Company. I have terminal damaged to one side of the belt pins, matching damage to one of the cones and a bearing case split open circularly around weld revealing the ball bearings (no sign of heat). Which appears to be the 'giving' part of the equation. The problem is, resolving the cause of the lock up. There appears no obvious cause in the gearbox area. An initial inspection of the diff. shows little sign of tooth damage. Any suggestion would be helpful especially if similar symptoms were experienced. A rebuild of the gearbox by the Transmission Company was about to commence, but I have this niggle that if I don't find the cause it may well happen again.
Thanks for any assistance supplied
