    Hi all, first timer.

2000 TDi Passat had a clicking from around the climate control panel which eventually stopped. A couple of weeks back I had the air con re-gassed (and some part of it topped up with oil they tell me), and lo, the ticking/clicking has returned.

As I look at the control unit I am sure I can see what appears to be a trace of fluid sitting in the bottom left hand corner?

Can anyone offer any advice please.

    Thanks in advance.

do you mean.... you think you can see fluid coming from the climacontrol unit in the dash ...if so i would be very surprised no fluid is moved around that part of the air con unit

I realise that the control unit is a piece of electronics but i have just popped the surround of the retrofit radio, which obviously is sitting underneath, and there is a film of oily fluid of various consistency sitting on the top edge.

Is may be unconnected but it is suspicious and the source is a puzzle to me.

Sounds like the garage gave the unit a quick squirt of oil, in the hope it would make the unit quieter....

The clicking is the flap motor. You can reset these with a VAG COM, but the flap might be broken.
    Just another B7 Estate

Would you believe it. In the car this morning, I was discussing this with my son, and how the fluid was a mystery, when my wife chirped in that she had put one of those clip on scented oil filled air fresheners on the air vent, and the scent had ran out, down over the unit and the radio. What I can see is clearly the stuff she was unable to wipe up.

No more oily air fresheners please, is what I said to her...!

Thanks for the advice. I will see if I can track down anyone with the necessary to see if a reset will work.
