    Hi all,

I've just picked up a mk3.5 Golf Cabrio (1999/2000). Don't know whether to put this here or in the mk3 section

It's an Avantgarde and it has central locking but not remote. Will it originally have had remote fobs or not?

If not, is it possible to get some sort of remote system fitted?

Other than that I really like the car, looking forward to some sunny days!

    Cheers for the advice!

    Hi

I have a plug in upgrade that was fitted to my MK3.5 Cabrio.

Looking for £25 delivered if it's of any interest to you.

    Cheers

Hi JF, how does it work, how hard is it to fit and what does it come with?

    Hi

You go into the boot, find the Central locking pump and remove the multiplug from it.
You then plug in the sub loom that comes with the remote box. You then plug the sub loom into your existing loom.
I'm actualy making it sound even more difficult than it is.
    It's all plug in.

If you want your inidicators to flash, there's a wire which you can feed to your OSR and NSR inidicators.

SO - it's reaaaaallllllyyyy easy to fit.

It comes with a flip key with no transponder inside , but a space for a transponder.
What you do is get your spare key and carefully cut it open to reveal the little chip inside. You then place it inside the flip key and that controls your immobiliser.
Again, very easy to do - took me around 10 minutes with a sharp knife and being careful not to damage the chip inside the key.

    So

    Remote locking upgrade
    Plug in loom
    Flip key.

    Cheers

    JF

    Hi

Sorry - can't answer that question for you.

My Golf was a MK4, which is really a MK3 in a party frock, that's why they're sometimes referred to as a MK3.5.

There will be a way for you to upgrade, but I'm afraid I'm not the person to tell you how to do it.

The Plug 'n Play unit being described here is from Rightclick:
    http://www.rclick.co.uk/product_info...roducts_id=480

I've just bought their Top of the range remote keyless entry system which includes Total Closure.
Removed the transponder from my original key and inserted it into the remote and key presto I've got a Mk4 style flip remote which starts the car.

Only problem is that my car only came with one transponder key and I don't feel like paying £100 for new one including programming.

I've read that you can stick the transponder behind the ignition so it's permanently in range of the transponder loop but has anyone done this ?
