    Forgot all about this thread.

Changed the Old Dears oil last weekend.

Very aprehensive about starting it but it was ok.

It is a 2005 car with the 3 cylinder 1.2 engine. As above, did VW modify the tensioner by that year?

    Cheers Kenny,

This is unbelievable, sods law says it's going to happen next time or the time after....

How can such a design flaw exist in something so simple as that engine. How could VW get it SO wrong.

Sorry to say it,but it's only one, of many, unexplainable flaws.

Yes like them going whappy if you clear the fault codes and needing the EGR valve re-adapting, that’s if the plug in the bottom of the EGR valve hasn’t fallen out or the cat stopped doing what it does or a lambda sensor failed or the consul bushes fallen apart and scrubbed out the tyres or the ABS fuse blown, the PS puimp stopped, the rack exploded etc etc etc…Seriously, the 9N Polo is a crap design! BUT, why is the Fabia 1 (the same platform) so much more reliable and the Ibiza 3 so much worse than even the Polo?

If that fails to cure it, it could be a failed dual mass flywheel.
Thanks for the suggestions. The original garage claimed to have rechecked both the cam and COI timing, however, I think I'll take your advice and get a fresh pair of eyes on it.

How expensive/difficult would it be to replace the flyheel if it is on the way out?

It's a 2001 Y regsitration. The engine code is AGP (and transmission is AEY if I've got them the right way around).

AGP is Polo 10/99>09/01 1.9 68PS SDI engine and does not exists as a transmission code

AEY is Polo 12/95>08/99 1.9 64PS SDI engine and does not exists as a transmission code.

Basically, they are both engine codes…

    PM me your reg number.
