Hey all, new to the site and had car about 1 week.
I was cleaning my air filter out in my 53 plate GTTDI 130 today when I thought I would start the engine and see if it sounded any better and just do a general inspection of my car underneith and engine bay. When I looked under the car about mid way down the middle of the car there is a heatshield type thing with a grove in the middle which the exhaust pipe runs through. I noticed on one side of the heatshield, the nearside I could see a see through liquid dripping from a hole in the heatshield (if thats what it is). The liquid is cool and when i dab the hole with my finger it drips out faster, ive smelt the liquid and it has no odour, im inclined to think its water.
Is there any pipes under the heat shield that would carry water to anywhere in the car or is this just water leaking from the heatshield thats some how trapped under it? For the record its not been raining today.

Second Problem. In my confusion to work out what the liquid was I forgot to attach the plug with wires in back up to the air filter box and when I got in the car to reverse it i switched the engine on and the dash went beep beep and the screen near the dials said "Warning", then said "Workshops emissions" followed by the yellow engine light on the dials. I reconnected the plug with wires to the airbox in the engine and now the warning thing wont disapear from my dash nor will the yellow engine light. Have I broken anything or has it done this because i didnt attach the plug, if so would a fault clear be in order, at least then if it did it again I would know its not because I didnt fit the plug to the airbox and run the engine for about 10 mins.
Sorry its long winded but have tried to explain everything as best I can.

The liqiud is condensation from the AC.You will have a fault logged in the ECU,it will do no harm except give a wrong diagnosis, when and if you need to have a fault code read.

So your saying the water drip thing from heat shield is normal, and that the emissions warning light and engine light might just be the result of me not plugging the plug back into the air filter box, once its cleared things should be ok?

Thanks buddy, thats reassuring news. only car ive had so far thats that sensitive that it shows every little niggle on the onboard computer screen. pitty i cant clear the code myself instead of having to take it to someone with vagcom every time this might happen.

You can clear the codes yourself using the shareware version of VAG-COM v409.1 (www.ross-tech.com) with an ODB-II cable (PM eshrules as he deals with this stuff, or go to the VAG-COM section on this forum). You'll also need a basic spec laptop with a USB port.

Cheers for the advice peeps. I went to see a bloke who lives not far from me this morning who has vagcom. on the way to him my light and message went off. He scanned the car and the error reading was becuase I never plugged the sensor back in on the air filter box. we cleared the codes and its fine. cheers all.
