Hi. I've had my polo for 4 months and its been great, however The ABS light came on yesterday.
I've checked the brake fluid and it seems fine so i'm thinking it'll be the sensors?

It is constantly on (unlike another post i read where it only came on after driving over 20 mph)

The pads were changed when i brought it and my car doesn't seem any different when braking. Im going to book it in to a garage tomorrow.

Does anyone know what the problem might be and the cost etc.

    Many thanks

it could be down to several things, a failed fuse on the supply from the battery, a failed wheel sensor, a faulty abs ecu. the only way to tell is to hook it up to a computer and see what fault codes are present.

Ok thankyou, I'm taking it to a garage tomorrow so hopefully can find out then.
whats the rough price they'll charge for the initial test?

Speaking of fuses, I blew the rear wiper one when it was icy a few weeks back. The ABS light seems to have come on around that time. Could i maybe have done something to the ABS fuse when changing the wiper fuse?
I took out a 10amp fuse(cant remember which) and put it in the wiper slot initially to check the problem.
    Maybe talking nonsense........

they should charge about £30 for the honour of plugging their computer in and reading the fault code for you. the abs fuse will be a big fuse, about 50amps, so i cant see that a 10 amp fuse you removed would cause the fault. unless you know and trust the garage,i would get them to find the code, then post the results on here, as abs faults can be quite tricky to solve, and some garages will start replacing components in the hope that the fault will go away. this can get costly for you. why not try to find someone local with vagcom. might be worth having a look on here for someone who would do it for some folding beer tokens.

OK thank you! the garage i'm taking it to has been pretty good and cheap on past cars i've took there for repairs, MOT's etc.

Ill see what they say and if he'll write down the fault codes for me.

Just back from the garage, the fault code was-
285 ABS speed signal 2 right front range/performance g45 (short circuit to another)
£35.50 for the test and will be around £50 + labour for the repair of the wheel sensor.
    Booked in for wednesday.

Still problems. The sensor was fixed but the ABS light remained on. Once connected again, the computer said it couldn't read any codes.
The mechanic thinks the pump is the problem and will need to be stripped down to be repaired.
    Any one had similar experiences?

He reccomended a company in kent BBA Reaman who specialise in this kind of repair.
    Im from the midlands

    Thanks.
