One for bearthebruce, well I did warn you.
As the recent ( and very happy ) owner of a VCDS hex-usd +can, I would really like to come up to speed with the variety of applications available.
I can stumble around and slowly 'play' with the unit and hope to god not to disable the car accidently or get very clever.
As a novice is there a structured approach to carrying out the range of tests and procedures available.
Is there a book or downloadable information available that would assist the familiarisation process to fully utilise the tool.
My biggest fear is unwittingly disabling the car and losing access to transport (I want to stay away from the dealers wherever possible).
    Best regards
    John

Unfortunately John, we have never had the time to put together a tutorial like you request here. One of our distributors, Ilexia, did take the time to make some Demo movies which may be of help to you: Ilexia VAG-COM If these movies are helpful, send a kind note to Derek at Ilexia to thank him for his hard work.

As to unwittingly disabling the car, again I encourage you to run and then save an autoscan of the car. By doing this, all coding for all modules will be saved so that if you should muck things up, you can always reset the coding to the original values.

There is a training DVD in development by a third party in the US. When it is available, we will most likely list it on our website. At this writing, I know the DVD is in final editing but I have not heard pricing and so on. We have not reviewed the work as yet. So, that would be another possible source for you when it is available.

A factory level repair manual is also a good source for information and procedures.
