    hi there, I own a 2002 mk4 golf GTTDI 130. 3 door.

I am wondering if anybody has put on new rs4 alloys, I have looked them up and they look fantastic, however it makes the whole car sit higher and it looks like the gap between the top of the wheel arch and the tyre is the same as the standard alloys. I am looking at 18 inch alloys, however if I go for the 19's will they sit nicer in the arches or does the car need lowered aswell.

I have seen a set in Aberdeen on a golf, looked great, however that was in passing, couldn't ask him if the car was lowered or not.

    Thanks, hope to hear back

i just fitted 18" audi tt wheels to my 2002 golf gt tdi, think they are off the 225bhp tt, and yeah they make the car look completely different, i didnt bother lowering mine as i think it looks and sits just fine. but i would say just go with the 18" wheels, dont bother with 19"s, just my opinion.

just another thing, i had 16" wheels on before i put the 18's on and i was getting nearly 50mpg but now with new wheels its dropped to about 42mpg, anybody have any idea why that is?

Hi, thanks for replying to my ad. If the wheel overall is a different height to the original wheels that could possibly make a difference to the MPG, not 100% sure though.

If I was to get bigger alloys then I would get the correct tyre package. that means that the overall height will remain the same. so 15" standard alloys with a high tyre wall will be the same overall height as the 18" alloys with a much lower profile. This keeps the speedo in check, and i guesse the MPG aswell, but can't be 100% sure. maybe is needs more fuel to put down more power to the wider tyres, that can also possibly be a factor.

Thanks for your response, hope we both work it out, lol

i am sure i have got the right tyres on my wheels(225 40 18) at least i hope i have anyway lol.

i was talkin to a fella at work today and he reckons the lower mpg has something to do with "increased friction as there is rubber on the road",. i just said yeah i will take your word for it, i dont understand all that really.

what wheels have you decided on????

I think it will be the new style RS4 alloys, they look tidy. either that or keep the original wheels for now and take a look at other alloys. In the end of the day I think I will go for the new style RS4 wheels. After all I saw them on a golf, must have been lowered though. The other pics of golfs with 18's sit high, (In my opinion lol) when I get them I am not going to lower it. The suspension is stiffer than normal cars and I have been told it is to do with the GT part of the gttdi. Nice feel and nice ride.

Is it possible to see pics of your golf with the 18's on it?

    Thanks again,

    Greig

i will post a pic of it at the weekend, its due a good clean inside and out.

the new rs4 wheels are nice, not seen them on a golf yet though, you will have a problem fitting genuine ones though, as the pcd fitting is bigger on the audi a4's, they are 112 i think and the golf is 100. but you can buy a pcd fitment to get them to fit, they are about 80-100 pound a pair and you will need 2 pairs.

Yeah, heard about the PCD, although you can replica copies of the alloys, thats what I am looking at. they come in both sizes, so no need for a fitment kit. Just need to find a set that look ok, some sets are very cheap replicas. so sometimes its worth spending the extra cash.

    Looking forward to the pics.
