    Hi all,

Wondering if anyone could steer me in the right direction.

I have a 1986 MK2 Golf GTI 8V, If i leave the car for two days without starting the battery will drain so i can not start it. When trying to start there is not enough power to turn it over. I can jump lead it and it starts straight away, i leave it to idle for a few minites and switch off and try again and it starts no problems. it has a new battery, positive & negitive cables.

    Can anyone give possible solutions.

    Many thanks
    Dave

    Hi,

Thanks for the advice... I did this and it seems to be the electronic fuel pump circuit.

Wondering if anyone has had the same problems within this area and is there anything i need to look out for?

    Many thanks
    Dave

    check wiring under rear seat
also check the fuse box/relay plate for water ingress
the coolant level sensor in the header tank sometimes leak and coolant travels down wiring into the fuse box about the area of the fuel pump relay and corrodes the relay plate
if this has happened then it is cleanable and you will have to mod the coolant level sensor wiring and replace sensor

    Hi,

Cheers for the latest info... I have now sorted it. I followed the rear loom and the previous owner had installed a fuel cut off and using a relay that had shorted. Removed it and all ok
