I have a tdi mark 5 and i had the unfortunate fortune that my front glass covering my lights smashed. Can i replace just the glass or do i have to buy the whole of the unit?

I note that there are clips but surprisingly the guy at euro car parts sold me the whole unit??? doesnt seem right to me but i hope the lovely people here can point me in the right direction.

    thanks in advance

if you have a mk4, you will have to replace the headlight, the same thing happened to me on my previous mk4 golf, and i had to replace the whole unit. i think it was about 80 quid from gsf. i got mine fitted by a garage as someone told me the bumper had to be taken of to fit it, dunno how true that it is though.

Front bumper off is the way to go, there are guides on how to do it online. Same thing happened to me when i had my MK4, just having basic spanner knowledge will get you through it. Sounds major taking the front bumper off i know but it really was quite a pleasantly easy job to do.
