Hi i have an early mk3 gti with a 2e engine, a while ago it started having issues with stalling (the age old problem of the idle going well below where idles should go lol) i gave the throttle body a good ol scrub and then noticed that the oil breather pipes (infact just the small section of pipe leading off of the oil breather) had a gaping great hole in it and was also closing in on its self choking the engine.
i replaced that pipe and cleaned out the breather pod and it stopped stalling and was running alot better
but for some reason now the fuel economy has gone right down the pan its gone from 30mpg (not really driving too cautiously) to around 12mpg driving pretty carefully
    any ideas?

    get a diag test done
    poss temp sender
if you set up co and idle you must disconnect the temp sender and rev car to 3000 rpm and back to idle to set ecu into base setting

    2e engines were digifant injection
you could set up the idle using idle screw in throttle body and the co/mixture using a 5mm allen key in air flow meter 850rpm 1.2%co

You can’t set the idle/Co without putting the ECU into Basic Settings mode and that can’t be done with VAG-COM shareware, only a registered copy.

A cable for VAG-COM and you will also need the 16 pin OBD II to 2x2 pin adapter cable. Then download the VAG-COM 409 software from Ross Tech and then pay them $99 to register the software which will allow you to perform Basic Settings.
