    Hi everyone,

I am hoping someone on the site has come across this before cos it's got me beat!

After playing up for a while the boot on my 01 A4 saloon has decided to lock itself shut. It wont open on the button and the lock is just spinning round when I put the key in.

The only way I reckon i can get it open again is to drop the back seats and climb in!

Have had a look at taking the seat out and it is bolted to the floor pan I think and the bolt heads underneath are behind the diesel tank, the back seat is a bench and not split otherwise this would be easy.

Has anyone come across this before or any ideas on how the seat comes out

This has happened in the week I was going to sell the bloody thing as well and trade it in for an Avant, do you think they know?

Great forum by the way, keep up the good work. Rich

i had a similar problem with my ignition; i stalled the car while in traffic and in my haste to restart hit the ignition key. this resulted in the car thinking it was being stolen and the ignition barrel just turned round and round.
the fix i later learned was to wiggle the key in the ignition while trying to put on the steering lock. doing this reengages the key in the ignition and allows you to start the motor.

perhaps there is a similar security mechanism on your A4 boot?

Thanks Lawly but have checked with Audi and there aren't any such devises on the car. Looks like a back seat out and climb in job!!

it would seem that you have stuff in the boot that you need out?
if not ,then just leave it as is.
the garage won't open the boot before they give you a trade in price, they just look in books,
not boots. after that,it's not your problem.
good luck with the new avant,
    stewy.

Thanks Stewy I had thought of just chopping it in but there si stuff in the boot I need out and was hoping to sell privatly anyway.

Update is it looks likt the catch is broken as I can get to the pull cable via a hole behind the number plate! Can pull the cable but the boot still not opening. Have got a new catch and a manual on order so will see how I get on when that comes.

    Thanks Rich

WE ARE IN !!! Have had to take the number plate off and drill a hole behind it. I then bent a welding rod and managed to fish the arm on the boot catch and open it.

Turns out the linkage from the motor via a rod to the catch had come off, what a nightmare !!

Have got a new catch from Audi to make sure it doesn't go again but thats it now it's off in the paper at the weekend.

Thanks to all those who tried to help.

    Rich.
