VCDS Beta 812.4

If anyone downloads the Beta 812.4, there is a fault which prevents communications with the CAN controller on later cars This has just cost me three hours of my day on a 2005 A6 before I worked out one of my mechanics had allowed the Beta update to install on my lap top the other day.

Just select the 805.3 as the 812 will be a pilot under test.So far i have used 812.3 long code and it was fine but i always expect the beta version to have bugs at first.Bet you were well happy Crasher lol,i will make sure the latest 812.4 stays unloaded for now

I was getting on fine with 812.3, apart from the irritating help box in auto scan and I can’t roll back to 813.3 so I have had to go back to 805.3. Never mind, that is the point of Beta testing.

The worst thing was I had bought the A6 back in (I serviced it on Wednesday) to investigate a poor cold start issue (it is a 2005 4F 3.2 V6 FSI, it stalls straight after cold start but is OK the next time and runs fine with no fault codes) and I was also doing a brake fluid change. It cost me all the time I available so I took it back to the doctor owner as he needed it a 1pm and told him his car had comms issues it did not have the other day. When I got back I went straight onto servicing a 2006 Leon 2 and it would not auto scan and refused to talk to the CAN module, it was then I realised it was the software, not the A6. When he rang up later to pay his bill from Wednesday and today, I had to tell him I was wrong, that it was my system and not his car and so arrange to bring it in again, made me feel like a knob!

And at least you told him you were wrong, rather than making up some excuse (or charging him to 'fix' his comms issue!)

Someone admitting their problem and then resolving it would make me think much more of them.
