    Please help

    Golf 96-97 1.6cl multi-point petrol injection

Tried starting the car after it had been parked up for about 30min, engine turns over ok but nothing, AA tow home.

Check to see if spark,,, no spark
Check to Coil resistance,, seems ok, replaced it as it had a crack in the casing
Check supply LT to coil 12v and continuity to earth,, ok

    Still no spark

Check to Hall’s sensor,, removed distributor three pin plug, earthed centre pin while testing for a spark from coil HT to earth and ignition turned on,,

    Still no spark

Checked for 12v and negative on distributor Hall’s sensor lead (Three pin left and right),, 0 volts

Has anyone got any idea where to go next?

I’ve tried to read the ECU with a Mobydic 3200 and software but it seems not to want to communicate with it.

    Cheers

    Thanks for the reply

Coil seems ok as but i replaced it anyway,

Ive been checking further and found i also have no power to the coil side of the fuel pump relay too, seems something has shut the spark and the pump down

Its fitted with a sigma m30, but as far as im aware that should only kill the started, plus all the other features are working fine with that.

I bought a Vag tester for the brain but alas that seems not to want to work with it either, so no codes to read.

Anyone any idea what can over ride the engine management system?

On the older golfs there is a fuel cutoff relay that fails, may be worth investigating for the newer models.
