I Had a couple of drips of water on my passenger footwell carpet in my newly aquired Passat TDi and after reading up on here the probelms people have had I set about clearing the blocked drain holes under the battery and the master cylinder in the engine bay. I was suprised at how easy it was to do the job. It takes very little time and requires very little knowledge on cars it's that simple. So anybody that has got a slight leak in their passat don't be afraid to give fixing it yourself ago.

This guide here is very useful for you to gain the required knowledge on how to do it....

I changed my pollen filter while I was at it also becuase it was grimey, full of allsorts, basically very dirty. It's very simple to change this and i'd reccommend doing this also so the air coming into your car is nice and clean.

This has to be the most documented Passat problem, ever and I think it shows our site as #1 in a Google search for "Passat leak" - EDIT: #2 behind Ewan's site, not bad

Glad you found the source and managed the fix - see my sig for more leak spots to check

Out of interest, did you sell the BMW or PX for the Passat?

Considering selling my VCDS KEY-USB interface. If you're interested please contact me via PM or email.

all done 15 mins,no real muck in drains, one under brake servo bit muddy, but peace of mind,1 thing i did notice was on offside of car(opposite to pollen filter)there is a black housing(filter/elecs?forgive my ignorance) underneath that, next to innerwing a lot of mud/silt had built up,stopping any water running away down inner wing, always a possibility of the water creeping in somewhere?cleared it out with an old paintbrush, and pushed a piece of wire under housing to make sure totally clear

That "black housing" would be your ECU and I had exactly the same problem, it's a pain in the rear to do, but once done you feel better.
