    Hi.
We bought our first Volkswagen yesterday, a Passat estate Highline 1.9 TDi auto estate.
It has 125,000 miles, and the cambelt was changed at 59000 miles, though it has been serviced regularly since.
What would you recommend we now do for safe reliable performance?
We presume cambelt change, but do we need to do the water pump and anything else too?
It will now be commuting me to work every day, 4 miles each way. and towing a 1275kg caravan 10 - 12 times a year, with 4 people and 2 dogs.
    We live in Nottingham.
As I say, it's a new to us make of car, and we are grateful for any advice.
    Thanks.
    Lynn

Sounds like you have got all worked out already.

The belt is overdue by 5,000 miles so get it done as soon as is possible and take it really gently until then.

    Waterpump
    Cam belt
    Tensioner
    Idler pulley
    Auxillary belts

and depending on the tensioner, the hydraulic damper should buy total peace of mind but not strictly neccessary, all the above ARE though.

It is also good practice to change the auxillary belt tensioner.

    Also get the mechanic / garage to carefully check all of the auxillary items as well whilst the belts are off, these include;

    Power steering pump
    Aircon compressor
    Aircon tensioner pulley

    and most importantly

The Alternator pulley, which can be problematical.

It is the big silver thing under the round thing LOL (round thing being the tensioner) As above, your car might not have this.
