Sorry if this is a repeat question but when the cambelt is changed does it come as kit? ie cambelt waterpump and tesioner? been quoted 350 all in for the job. is this reasonable? i understand the front end has to come off.

    thanks
    clive.

cambelt kit comes with belt and idlers only
    water pump is seperate
£350 sounds ok ish dealers are charging £540 for 1.9 tdi cambelt and water pumps
the front of car needs to come off to gain access/to give room so you can get to bolts etc

if its £350.00 all in thats very good you can get your own water pump for about £30.00 have it done at the same time i paid £570.00 for a timing belt tensioners and water pump fitted on a 2.8 a6 2 years ago so yes that is a bargain just as long as its a compitant garage

Thanks for your help. car was owned by lady from new and has 11 maindealer stamps and 2 indies. Am being a fussy bugger and getting it changed as i always would when buying any car....It saves a lot of effing and shouting later on. here she is. not bad for a first car. sounds sad but very proud of it as i saved hard for it

Depending on the year, there are 2 cambelt kits. 1 cost 140 quid the other 240 quid. Add a thermostat, a water pump, 2 drivebelts and 5L of coolant and its too cheap as the job takes 4.5 hours ! I have done one to a forum member and i did not break even as i have quoted him £350 fitted ! I had to buy the later expensive full cambelt kit (wich contains the belt, 2 idlers, a tensioner and the hydraulic damper), the thermostat, the water pump and the belts wich costed £311 inclusive of VAT. If they just replace the belt without replacing the idlers then walk away chances are that the belt will fair writing off the car ! Make shure they fit a new water pump and thermostat as if they fail, its a belt off job...You can get in touch with me if you want a well done job cheaper...

    Hi,
    I also have a 1999 T-reg 2.8 that's due a cam belt change (82K).
Clive, how did you get on with yours? Any tips?

Adamss24, I'd PM you for a quote and more details but I'm a newbie on this forum so can't until a post 5 comments ... perhaps you could email me?
