    Hello,

I have an 02 plate Passat TDi 130pd Saloon with a virtually trouble free 145,000 on the clock.
A fault has recently developed... when I apply moderate to heavy acceleration, power is not applied smoothly and the car "judders". Occassionally, but not everytime, the ESP warning light is illuminated and any acceleration thereafter is impossible until the ignition is switched off/on, which temporarily cures the problem.
The frequency of this problem occurring seems to be increasing.
Having read through this forum, I guess I will need a diagnostic check to pinpoint the problem, but the purpose of posting is to enquire if this is a common problem and ask if anybody knows the likely cause?
Can anybody give me some guidance please?

    Thank you.

You need a fault code read first, there are various different things it could be.

remove the intake section with the stop flap it also has a pipe from bottom of it to exhaust manifold.remove this which will more than likely be thick with wet oily carbon.get it all shinning and re-fit and check 9/10 sorted.

Thank you very much for your advice swany99.
I will do as you suggest... fingers crossed!
If it doesn't work, no worries, I'll do as Crasher suggests and get a fault code read.

    Hello STEWY L,

Thanks for taking the time to reply.
The asr light does not illuminate, only the esp.
The tyres are Pirelli P6000 all round, the two front ones are brand new having been replaced only 200 miles ago.
